Main Takeaways:
YZi Labs today welcomed Jing Xiong as our new Investment Director, where she’ll lead our AI investment efforts and explore the intersection between AI, web3, and biotech.
With a deep passion in AI and advanced technology, Jing’s journey took root at Stanford University, where she earned her Ph.D. exploring the intersection of computer vision and neuroscience. Between lab work and complex equations, she was drawn to Stanford’s entrepreneurship clubs, where founders transformed ideas into reality from zero to one. That spark of startup energy stayed with her.
After graduating in 2019, Jing joined Google, where she spent five years contributing to and leading internal intrapreneurship efforts. She was a seasoned tech lead at Google Lens where she led the development of the image similarity ranking model used across all Lens verticals and created the initial version of the "Top Match" feature. With a growing interest in natural language processing, she expanded into multimodal projects including document understanding and Gemini multimodal multilingual quality. These experiences equipped her with deep technical expertise and a sharp understanding of how to build impactful, scalable technology.
Jing’s path to YZi Labs feels like a homecoming. She met Ella Zhang, Head of YZi Labs, at a Stanford student club years ago, bonding over a shared belief that tech should do good beyond just doing well. When their paths crossed again, Jing realized this was her chance to make a difference – not just in tech, but in the lives of those building it.
Now, as YZi Labs’ Investment Director, Jing channels her expertise and entrepreneurial spirit to empower founders at the forefront of AI, as well as the intersections of biotech and Web3. She understands the hurdles entrepreneurs face and is determined to help founders cut through the noise. Whether it’s identifying practical use cases, advising on fundraising strategies, or connecting them with the right industry experts, Jing is here to help founders succeed.
“We’re so excited to welcome Jing to YZi Labs,” said Ella Zhang, Head of YZi Labs. “When we bumped into each other at a hackathon at AGI House, she told me—eyes lit up—about how she built an AI agent for fortune telling in her spare time. That kind of curiosity and creativity is exactly what we look for. At YZi Labs, we believe AI is transforming every aspect of how we live and work. Jing’s onboarding marks the beginning of building out our AI team, and we’re actively looking for more bold, brilliant AI talent to join us.”
“I knew instantly this was where I belonged,” said Jing Xiong, Investment Director of YZi Labs. “I’m inspired to partner with founders transforming the future of technology. I see AI as a force to empower both enterprises and individuals, crafting intuitive solutions and addressing humanity’s most complex challenges. I’m here to help bring that vision to life.”
YZi Labs continues to prioritize investments in projects with strong fundamentals and long-term impact, regardless of market trends. The firm is actively seeking exceptional founders driving innovation in AI, biotech, and Web3. Apply to YZi Labs here: bit.ly/YZiLabs.
